Baseball’s Legendary Babe

When baseball fans of today think of power hitters, names like Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds come to mind. These players have been admired and celebrated as among baseball’s elite home run hitters, breaking records and dazzling crowds with their athletic achievements.

Despite the recognition these players attained as famous sluggers, only one baseball player will succeed in standing out amongst the best of them all. Born on February 6, 1895, George Herman Ruth Jr., son of German-American parents, would come to be regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture, and named the greatest baseball player in history according to various surveys and rankings. After being nicknamed “Jack’s newest babe” from Baltimore Orioles players after their owner and manager Jack Dunn signed Ruth to play for their team, the name Babe Ruth would become synonymous with baseball greatness.

Most of us think of Babe Ruth as one of the best hitters the game of baseball ever produced, but he originally broke into the major leagues as a pitcher. Before he was known for his legendary home run hitting prowess, he was starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, his father sent him to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys after the death of Babe’s mother. It was at this school that he was introduced to the game of baseball. After playing a year for the then minor-league Baltimore Orioles, Babe Ruth was sold to the Boston Red Sox. Although mainly used as a pitcher on the team, in 1915 Ruth secured a spot in the Red Sox starting rotation, hitting .315 for the season and also hitting his first four home runs. The Red Sox won the World Series that year but Babe didn’t contribute much, not pitching in the series and grounding out in his only at-bat.

The next year Ruth would make a major contribution pitching a 14-inning complete-game victory in game two to help the Red Sox win another World Series. Ruth would show his pitching abilities when he threw a 1-0 shutout in the opener of the 1918 World Series. This would be his final World Series appearance as a pitcher with a record ERA of 1.06. At the suggestion of a teammate, Ruth began playing in the outfield more and pitching less. He made 75 hitting-only appearances and batted .300 leading the A.L. with eleven home runs despite only having 317 at-bats during the season. Babe’s last season with the Red Sox was in 1919 when he also set a record single-season 29 home runs.

Ruth had a fiery temper and was ejected from a game for punching an umpire. His lack of self-control and insistence on getting a raise were part of the reasons he was sold to the Yankees in 1920. His Yankee years would prove extremely productive as he transitioned from a pitcher to a power-hitting outfielder, rewriting the record books with his hitting achievements. Ruth’s best year of his career was in 1921 hitting 59 home runs, batting .378 and slugging .846 as he led the Yankees to their first league championship.

He had the power and ability to drive many home runs within and beyond the 450-500 foot range. His style of play became known as “Ruthian”, describing any long home run hit by any player. In 1923 when the Yankees moved from the Polo Grounds, their new stadium was christened “The House That Ruth Built.” Babe Ruth hit Yankee Stadium’s first home run in their victory over the Red Sox.

Despite his greatness with the bat, Babe Ruth is also remembered for a costly base running blunder during the 1926 World Series. Known for his overaggressive base running, Ruth tried stealing second base with the Yankees trailing 3-2 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. He was thrown out, ending the game and the Series. His achievements proved greater, for in 1927, he beat his own record with a career-high 60 home runs, batting .356, driving in 164 runs, and slugging .772. In 1929, the Yankees became the first team to use uniform numbers regularly, and since Ruth normally batted third ahead of Lou Gehrig, he was assigned the number 3. The Yankees retired his number on June 13, 1948. By 1934, Babe Ruth had his heart set on managing the Yankees, but instead got traded to the Boston Braves in 1935. This would be his last year as a player. His health had deteriorated and he was physically spent.

Why Watch Basketball (And Why Watch Online)

Basketball is a highly enjoyable game to watch and one that has a certain amount of skill and excitement that many of sports do not quite benefit from. Watching basketball then is a great way to kill time and to enjoy some sports, and there are many ways to enjoy it – including watching NBA live online. Here we will look at just why basketball is so good to watch, and why when you watch NBA games online it makes it all the sweeter.

Whenever you watch NBA it is going to be a great experience. Basketball is a game that takes an incredible amount of skill and physical prowess – unlike other games it is possible to tell if someone has what it takes to be a basketball player simply by looking at them (they need to be pretty tall for starters, and long arms and big hands don't go amiss either). These are true athletes, and on top of their physical height they have to be in top shape at all times. Some of the moves and trick shots they can then pull off in game are majestic to watch and the kind of thing you can go home and talk about. When you watch football or baseball it's all very entertaining too, but there aren't quite the same amazing shots and tricks you get when you watch basketball live. Simply search basketball slam dunks in YouTube and you'll quickly get the idea. And the great thing about when you watch basketball live, is that it's possible to relate and to really appreciate the skill you're seeing – as having tried to jump and grab the hoop yourself, or shoot from the halfway line, you'll know just how difficult all those things are to do.

At the same time though it's not just about the power of the individual, but also a team sport and it's great seeing all of the team work and tactics when you watch live basketball – there's just an awful lot going on and a lot to appreciate.

Now while this is all very good and well, it's not quite the same to watch NBA if it's not live. When you watch live sports this gives you the feeling of being there in the moment – that anything can happen – and means you aren't going to accidentally see the scores anywhere else. Unfortunately to actually go to a game is quite expensive and an upheaval, while watching it on television can be costly too. That's where it's such a good idea to watch NBA live online – as it lets you watch at home in the comfort of your home, for free, and still live. This means you can relax with some friends or on your own, have a beer and some nachos and really enjoy the experience as though you were there. And if you have the right monitor or a projector then you can enjoy it large screen and even possibly larger than you would on your own television.

Make most of your hockey fever

We today live in a time when irrespective of national and international boundaries, one or the other sport has become a way of life rather than being an activity meant for recreation. While a part of the world is home to soccer fanatics, another part of the globe remains drenched in the colour of cricket. Such is the following of theses sports that the fans seem to follow it as a religion. If you find it hard to believe, simply switch on your television sets to feel the pulse of the crowd as they cheer for their favourite teams to beat the rivals. The sport suddenly becomes a matter of great importance, much more grave than even the question of life and death. Such is the fever among the fans.

Hockey is another sport that is soon coming to the limelight. Not that it is weak in any respect, but the kind of recognition that the hockey players are awarded with, it ranks somewhat lower than the respect meted out to the so called higher sports. But changing times has brought winds of positivity. With more and more funds flowing in to the game, it has begun gathering the attention of the masses. Moreover, the National Hockey League is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the message of ‘Hockey is for everyone’ is driven home and well accepted by one and all. For this purpose they have initiated special ambassador programs that help to create awareness about this sport and highlight the importance of this sport in the life of every young person. Also, NHL makes sure that it encourages all forms of hockey including ice hockey and street hockey so that the generation today can have a positively channelized outlet for all their aggression and excessive energy which if remains untapped could prove detrimental to the society or the individual himself.

But it would be an honest confession that the times have not come so far that the masses have been moved enough so as to promptly but tickets for an international hockey match. The game has not achieved such respectable heights yet. But then, it is not a point to be disappointed about. The main objective of NHL is to promote the sport and incorporate it into the routine and lifestyle of the generation. So this purpose is somewhat achieved by promoting online viewership. Anyone who has the privilege of having access to the internet can watch matches at their computer screens and enjoy the matches live as well. What is more is that the people who chose to watch matches online can feel the pulse of the fans by interacting with other users who have logged on to view the same match and discuss with them what they think of the game at all points. So why not log in to your account and take the advantage of sitting in the comfort of your home and enjoying the feel of the playground.

Rules and Regulations for Cricket Game and Equipment

Cricket is a very lively sport enjoyed by many. As such the game has evolved and spread all across the world like a virus. Every nation takes pride in winning the world cup for its country. In India the sport is followed pretty passionately that they consider few of their players to be Gods.

Cricket is played in two formats. One format is Test games and the other is One Day Internationals. Totally there are 10 test playing nations representing the international arena and they are England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, India, Srilanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe. Only the above mentioned teams participate in test games and it is primarily because of the demands of test cricket and its competitiveness. Test games are played over 5 days with 3 sessions per day. 90 overs to be bowled in a day and each team play two innings respectively. Players play in whites clothing and a red ball is used which is changed after every 80 overs in an innings.

The team which scores more runs than their opponent carries those runs as lead runs into the 3rd inning. If the team batting second has a deficit of more than 200 runs than the first team which batted, the first team is allowed to make their opponents follow on thereby the team bats in the third innings instead of the 4th innings. There are no fielding restrictions in a test game and the captain of any side can place his fielders almost anywhere. A bowler is allowed to bowl 3 bouncers in an over. The game is considered to be drawn if the game goes into the 5th day and all of the 90 allotted overs are used eventually.

One day is a different game all together. Each side plays only 1 innings of 50 overs respectively. The teams play with a white colored cricket ball and colored clothing. The white ball is used since red balls are difficult to spot when played in colored clothing. In this format at world events such as the world cup, teams such as Netherlands, Ireland, Canada, USA, Bermuda, UAE, Scotland, Kenya, Afghanistan etc also take part.

The ODI games have the concept of fielding restrictions unlike the test games. 20 overs of power plays are used by both the sides with the first 10 overs of it being mandatory and the last 10 is divided equally among teams and they choose to take it whenever they want. As per the mandatory first 10 overs only 2 fielders are allowed outside the 30 yard circle. In batting and bowling Powerplays 3 fielders are allowed outside the 30 yard circle. During the remaining 30 overs at all times 4 fielders must be within the 30 yard circle and the remaining 5 can be placed anywhere along the boundaries.

An over stepping bouncer bowled by the bowler is dealt with a free hit where in the batsman cannot get out in the next ball. However, he can be run out while attempting for a run in that delivery. Only one bouncer is allowed per over in ODI’s.

Giving Back Via "The Loop" through golf

The Loop
A loop is a closed, circular shape, and a powerful symbol. In fact, humans have used the loop throughout history to represent continuity. In our case, that connection is charity—life is one big loop. In other words, we get what we put in and the focus of our charity section here at My Crazy Caddie is about giving back to the community as much as we possibly can.

Since golf is such an important part of our culture, many organizations and individuals use it as a platform for giving back. Common examples include all of the celebrity golf tournaments that take place all over the country throughout the year. The only problem we see is that while some of these events receive a tremendous amount of attention, far too many of these charity efforts receive not enough.

The Loop is one way we can help to change that. For starters, we can use it to "get the word out" about charity golf tournaments and other important golf events. Then, we can use it to spotlight the individuals and the organizations that are out there in the trenches. These people are doing amazing work in the golf world, and they're redefining what giving back means. The Loop is also a simple yet effective opportunity just to say thank you.

We want the Loop to be a success but it can't be that on its own. The Loop is just a platform, and if it is going to matter, it'll be because the golfers here at My Crazy Caddie use it to make a difference. So are you ready to do your part and "put in"? Here's how you do it:

* Use the Loop to post any charity golf tournaments. These don't need to be "your" tournaments. If it's out there and the community doesn't know, let the Loop be your mountaintop.

* Keep an eagle eye out in your community for the people who are using the sport we love to make a difference. When you find them, submit them to us, and let us do our part to shine the light that they deserve.

If each of us takes a few moments of our free time to participate, we can make the Loop into something special, and do our part to give back. We look forward to the golfing community embracing the Loop just as much as we have. Thank you for your time.

Aluminum No Longer Found Only In Soda Cans, It’s Also An Integral Part Of Event Arena Seats

More often than not, when you go to a park or field, you will find bleachers that are old and splintered with rusted metal and missing screws or nails. If the need is there, then new bleachers are readily available, and currently the appearance of a lot of park bleachers is nothing to be advertised.

As well as the elements, you can find bleachers in parks and schools across the nation that have not been kept up and have taken much damage due to wear and tear. These bleachers will become a hazard and might be a danger to spectators at little league games, or for people rooting for their high school football team over time. If an incident were to happen, negative press for the park or school would surely have an effect on public opinion, but with a little forward thinking and execution, newer, safer seating is readily attainable.

Metal bleachers rust and wooden bleachers splinter and rot, but aluminum bleachers are a safer and longer-lasting alternative, plus they are simpler to keep up in the long run. ParkNPool, based out of Virginia, specializes in bleachers, and has many types of aluminum bleachers in their catalogue, ranging from stadium bleachers to tip n’ roll bleachers that can be easily put aside when not in operation. They carry seating for any location, ranging anywhere from three to fifteen rows, depending on what you want them for.

Housing up to 1,545 people, the aluminum stadium seating cary up to fifteen rows, and are ideal for larger sporting events. Low rise, non-elevated bleachers are just right for smaller assemblies, but still range between three and five rows for up to 50 people, while basic non-elevated bleacher can reach up to ten rows, seating around 250 people. The non-elevated seats also have the option of being storagble as well for models varying between 10 and 15 rows. Easily moveable and storable for less frequent events, the Tip n’ Roll bleachers are a bit smaller, with up to only four rows and housing less than 50 people.

Aluminum seating is considered to be the most economical choice for outdoor facilities, needling little upkeep and repairs over long periods of time. The power to withstand frequent weather changes, resiliency and stability are attractive factors, make aluminum benches the best option for many different settings and locations.

No one will be able to enjoy whichever event they are trying to observe if you don’t have comfortable seating. Proper and comfortable seating should be the first concern anywhere sports are played. The more people will show up to the games to support their teams, the more profit will be seen in concessions, and the cycle comes full circle.
